Former TD Ameritrade Employees Launch Social Networking Sports Site http://www.prnewswire.com CrowdPicks.Com, A Credibility-Based, Social Networking Site, Launches
Beta
OMAHA, Neb., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Incubator company WSC
Group, Inc., announces the launch of CrowdPicks.com beta. The launch
features a first of its kind web-based application that allows members to
search the CrowdPicks prediction database to create user defined, aggregate
game score predictions. This application, called the CrowdFilter, allows
members to create fully customizable searches using multiple variables.
WSC Group was started by two former TD Ameritrade employees -- Jeff
Murnane, Director of Competitive Intelligence and Cassius Almeida, Senior
Product Manager. They were invited into the Scott Technology Incubator and
Transfer Center, where they currently base their operations.
"Having an innovative start-up like WSC Group provides students on
campus the exposure to breaking technology as well as practical experience
of working within an entrepreneurial organization" said Ken Moreano,
Director of Scott Technology Center.
According to Jeremy Heeg, student developer, "WSC Group is my first
start-up experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything. We have the
freedom to try new things here. Right now we're working with AJAX and
http://ASP.NET, striving to provide the perfect Web 2.0 user experience."
Sports fans now have a place to discuss and exchange ideas in a
community setting where their sports credibility is on display. Members
make predictions or "picks" on various sports, such as NFL, NBA and NASCAR,
and they can track performance across several different categories. By
using a proprietary scoring engine, members can assess and display
performance, represented by a "CrowdScore" and a unique sport avatar.
"Sports fans now have a place where they can easily differentiate the real
sports experts from the average Joe. They can track those top performers to
see what picks they're making and what they're saying about their favorite
teams," says Almeida.
CrowdPicks will leverage user-generated content including blogs, news
links, team and game messages, live game chat, public and private messages
to provide the community with updated information on their favorite sports
and teams. The image-rich environment and virtual rewards keeps members
fully engaged and returning to track their own and their friends'
CrowdScore.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of CrowdsPicks.com is the company's
decision to share revenue back with their member base. Revenue sharing will
be based on various factors including member page views and CrowdScore
performance, which will encourage and reward each member to generate more
original content and drive traffic to the site. "We truly believe that the
real sports experts are the fans, and we hope to prove this by not only
providing them a place to build sports credibility, but a place to earn
money just by following their favorite teams," said Murnane.
